- Sutskever (Sutzkever), Avraham
(b. 1913)
Polish Yiddish poet. He was born in Smorgon, Belorussia. His family moved to Siberia then to Vilna. He belonged to the 'Yung Vilne' school of Yiddish poets. In 1941-3 he was incarcerated in the Vilna Ghetto, but escaped and joined the partisans. He settled in Paris in 1949. Many of his poems deal with European ghetto life and the Holocaust.
